Otter Oaks Farm, owned and operated by partners Soraya Alem and Jarvi Schneider, contributes to the local pipeline of Chicago-grown produce through a sustainable urban farm located right here in the city. The name "Otter Oaks Farm" pays homage to the cherished memories of Jarvi's grandfather's Michigan ranch, and what we grow is inspired by Soraya's grandmother's garden in South Louisiana and their Lebanese heritage. Our cultivation is a heartfelt tribute to our loving tie to the land.
We offer Community Supported Agriculture produce boxes paired with recipes focused on American Southern and Lebanese cuisine. These boxes supply our customers with fresh, seasonal produce, while expanding their culinary knowledge of dishes that are near and dear to us. Delivery or Pick-Up available. Each box features an assortment of leafy greens, fruits, roots, and herbs available on a weekly basis through membership. Our farm plot is a quarter acre within a communal space that provides affordable rent, water access, and a priceless sustainable farming experience.
What began as a small 1/8 acre plot has blossomed into a thriving farm that serves our local community through:
- Seasonal produce box subscriptions
- Educational workshops
- Community events
- Volunteer opportunities
Outside of our profit-based farm endeavors, we strive to inspire and empower queer, trans, and young aspiring farmers as a means to provide support, education, and share ideas as we work towards a more inclusive and sustainable farming future. Otter Oaks Farm seeks to ignite a passion for sustainable agriculture that fosters a profound connection between individuals and the earth.
